The Boundary Commission for Scotland published its Provisional Proposals for constituencies for the Scottish Parliament on 14 February 2008. This publication is part of the Commission's First Periodic Review of Scottish Parliament Boundaries which was announced on 3 July 2007. The full process of the review is set out in the Descriptive Booklet, available below.
The Provisional Proposals were superseded by the Commission's Revised Recommendations for constituencies, published in May 2009.
Publication of the Provisional Proposals was announced through Statutory Notices placed in newspapers and a News Release. Material relating to Provisional Proposals is being made available for public inspection at a variety of locations such as council offices and libraries which are detailed in the Statutory Notices. The constituency proposals cover all of Scotland except Orkney and Shetland, where the extent of the constituencies is fixed by the relevant legislation. Each proposed constituency is designated as a Burgh Constituency (BC) or a County Constituency (CC).
The consultation period ended on 14 March 2008 for all council areas except Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dumfries & Galloway, East Ayrshire and Moray where the consultation period ended on 21 March 2008 due to republication of the Statutory Notices for those areas.
